School Vision Statement

Holly Oak works with our families to provide a pathway to realize the dreams and hopes of its children, and to create a safe and friendly learning environment. We envision technologically literate students who are life-long learners and active in their community. Together, the staff and the PTA will provide a high quality standards-based instructional program that develops life-long learners and responsible, productive leaders of tomorrow.

 

School Mission Statement

The mission of the Holly Oak Elementary School is to provide the academic support for students to pursue their learning potential to the highest levels, to create a school climate that fosters the feeling of family and community involvement, and to provide children opportunities to experience and participate in the world around them. Their future depends on their ability to think creatively and critically, work with a team toward mutual goals, appreciate diversity, and be able to adapt to change. They need skills in acquiring, filtering, processing, and using information to make effective decisions and to communicate with others. Students will understand they are a part of a local and global community.

Our students will learn to set goals, strive to achieve them, and to gain the skills necessary to be a productive and responsible citizen. They will learn to monitor their own academic and social growth, and to work with the adults around them to assist with their "coming of age" process.

Students will learn to make good choices and choose a life-style that will promote a healthy body, mind and lifestyle. They will learn the importance of the links between health, fitness, and learning. They will set goals that combine health, learning, family, and community involvement.

Finally, Holly Oak Elementary is a family friendly school. We want children to remember their experience at Holly Oak fondly, as a place that helped them grow into successful adults. We value the inclusion of family participation in all aspects of the school.

Dear Holly Oak Families,

Welcome to Holly Oak Elementary School, home of the Hawks and the Dual Language Academy in Evergreen School District!

My name is Armando Lara, and I am excited to begin my fourth year as the proud principal of Holly Oak Elementary School. It is truly an honor to serve this amazing school community. Every day, I have the privilege of working alongside dedicated educators, supportive families, and remarkable students who inspire me with their curiosity, resilience, and determination to learn.

My journey with the Evergreen School District began in 2002. Throughout the years, I have served as a classroom teacher, reading intervention teacher, project specialist, assistant principal, and principal. I have also had the opportunity to work with students and staff at both the elementary and middle school levels. These experiences have reinforced my belief that every child has unique strengths and unlimited potential. When students feel safe, valued, and connected, they gain the confidence to take risks, embrace challenges, and achieve great things.

At Holly Oak, we are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience for every student. We proudly offer two outstanding instructional programs that meet our families' diverse needs and interests. Our Spanish-English Dual Language Academy follows a 90/10 Dual Language Immersion Model, where students develop bilingualism, biliteracy, strong academic achievement, and cross-cultural competence.

We also offer an English Program that provides rigorous, engaging instruction to prepare students for success in school and beyond. No matter which program our students attend, they are part of one Holly Oak family where high expectations, meaningful relationships, and a sense of belonging guide everything we do.

We are also proud to be a SEAL (Sobrato Early Academic Language) school. The SEAL approach strengthens language and literacy development through engaging, language-rich instruction that honors students' cultures, experiences, and home languages. It reflects our belief that multilingualism and multiculturalism are tremendous assets that enrich learning for everyone.

One of Holly Oak's greatest strengths is our diversity. We celebrate the many languages, cultures, and experiences represented in our school community because they make us stronger. We strive to ensure that every student feels welcomed, respected, and empowered to succeed while developing the knowledge, skills, and character needed to become compassionate, confident, and responsible citizens.

I firmly believe that education is a partnership. Families are our children's first teachers, and your support plays an essential role in their success. I encourage you to stay involved, communicate with our staff, volunteer when possible, and participate in our many school events. Together, we can create meaningful learning experiences and ensure that every student reaches their highest potential.
