Silver Oak PTO
YEAR IN REVIEW
Silver Oak PTO thanks our parent community for supporting the Fall Pledge Drive, which makes it possible to provide art and music instruction in all grade-level classrooms as part of the PTO annual budget. The PTO also thanks the many students that participated in our Fine Arts extracurricular activities such as the plays, choir, band, and the talent show this year. It is truly amazing to see the kids blossom in the arts and have the opportunity to flex their creative muscles. Many thanks to all the parent volunteers that helped run and/or support our various Fine Arts programs. Funds make it possible... but volunteers make it happen. Thank you!
Here is a brief summary of 2017 - 2018 Fine Arts at Silver Oak...
PTO provides music and art in the classroom!
Our Kindergarten classes enjoyed monthly visits from percussion musician, James Henry. The children had the opportunity to explore various percussion instruments from around the world as they joyfully participated in Mr. Henry's spirited, samba-inspired musical lessons. In the spring, Kindergarteners also experienced weekly music visits from Mr. Powell, who provided classic, traditional musical instruction with catchy rhythms and silly lyrics.
Mr. Powell also make weekly visits for musical instruction in our 1st through 4th grade classes. Designed around education standards, his curriculum leads classrooms through guided musical activities that ensure a level of success, making the students an integral part of a fun, interactive experience. Fourth grade classes learn many traditional American songs and participate in the end-of-year Spring Concert as a choir, along with the after school band.
Our 5th & 6th grade classes participated in 10 weekly sessions with instructor, Lisa Anderson, of the PEER Group. They learned songs, and music analysis, and experimented with percussion. Sixth graders received and learned to play their own recorder, culminating in a special 6th Grade Concert for their families in June.
The amazing Mr. Stuart from the San Jose Museum of Art provided fine art instruction to our 3rd through 6th grade classes. Many of their amazing works were on display in the 15th Annual Art Show.
Kindergarten, First and Second grades used the Arts Attack program to supplement their art instruction. All teachers had access to a well-stocked Art closet provided by the PTO!
We want to thank teacher liaison, Jeanine Giacomini for helping PTO to coordinate & schedule all our Fine Art classroom programs!
